Volkswagen for rent in Moscow: Polo, Jetta, Tiguan, Multivan

Customer support
Published Updated

Volkswagen rental in Moscow without a driver — from budget Polo to spacious Multivan for 7 seats. The Rent-Trip fleet has four models (Polo, Jetta, Tiguan, Multivan) out of 90 cars, prices from 2 800 to 12 000 ₽ per day.

Which Volkswagens are available for rent in Moscow and how do they differ

The Moscow fleet of Rent-Trip includes four Volkswagen models — from the city-oriented Polo to the seven-seat Multivan. The cars cover different scenarios: daily trips around the capital, highway routes, winter trips to the Moscow region, and family travel. All vehicles have automatic transmission, which simplifies driving in heavy traffic on the MKAD ring road and the Third Ring Road. Below are the characteristics of each model with daily rates.

Volkswagen Polo — economy for the city.

Polo liftback is the most affordable option in the lineup: 2 800 ₽ per day. The car belongs to the Economy class, is equipped with a 1.6 L petrol engine with 110 hp and front-wheel drive. Compact dimensions are convenient for parking in the courtyards of Khamovniki or on the narrow streets of Basmanny District, and fuel consumption in the urban cycle makes trips around the capital inexpensive. Five seats are enough for trips for two or three with luggage.

Volkswagen Jetta — comfort for the highway.

Jetta — a Comfort-class sedan at 3 700 ₽ per day. The 1.4 L petrol engine produces 150 hp, which confidently maintains cruising speed on the M-11 when travelling to Saint Petersburg and on the M-4 to Tula. Front-wheel drive and an enlarged boot make the Jetta a practical choice for intercity routes. If you plan a trip along the Golden Ring with stops in Sergiyev Posad and Suzdal, this model is more comfortable than the Polo over long distances.

Volkswagen Tiguan — all-wheel drive for the Moscow region.

The Tiguan is a crossover with all-wheel drive and a 2.0 L petrol engine producing 180 hp, 5 800 ₽ per day. All-wheel drive gives confidence on snowy roads in December–February and on dirt approaches to dachas in the region. Ground clearance is higher than sedans, which is useful on broken asphalt sections beyond the MKAD. Off-road driving is prohibited by the rental agreement, but for winter trips to the Moscow region, the Tiguan is the most reliable model in the fleet.

Volkswagen Multivan — 7 seats for the family.

Multivan — a minivan for seven seats with a 2.0 L diesel engine (150 hp), 12 000 ₽ per day. Front-wheel drive and automatic transmission. Three rows of seats accommodate a family with children or a company of six adults with luggage to the boot. Diesel is more economical than petrol on the highway, which is relevant for long routes — to Kazan along the M-12 Vostok motorway or to Saint Petersburg.

How much does it cost to rent a Volkswagen in Moscow — per day, per week, and per month

The Volkswagen rental rate in our fleet is from 2 800 to 12 000 ₽ per day depending on the model. Below are prices for each car and long-term rate options.

We set prices for Volkswagen so that a short trip for a day or two remains affordable, while a week or a month turns out significantly more profitable per day. The table shows basic rates for four models that we deliver across the capital, the Moscow region, airports, and railway stations.

How weekly and monthly tariffs are calculated

When renting for a week, we apply a rate calculated as six days instead of seven — from 16 800 ₽ for a Volkswagen Polo. The monthly rate is calculated as 21 days and starts from 58 800 ₽ for the same model. The difference with daily payment becomes noticeable already from the third week: you pay for 21 days, but the car stays with you for 30.

For the Jetta, Tiguan and Multivan the logic is the same — a week equals six days of the daily rate, a month equals 21 days. Thus, a Tiguan for a month costs from 121 800 ₽, and a Multivan from 252 000 ₽. The exact terms of long-term rental, including the deposit and mileage limit, are specified in the rental agreement.

What affects the final price

The total cost consists of three components: the selected model, the duration, and the delivery terms. For short city trips, the Polo is more advantageous — it is comfortable to drive around the Garden Ring and the Third Ring Road, and to park near Patriarch's Ponds or in Khamovniki. For intercity routes along the M-11 to Saint Petersburg or the M-12 to Kazan, the Jetta or Tiguan is more rational: they are more stable at speed and more economical over long distances.

Terms of delivering the car to the airport, train station or an address within the capital and the region are clarified when booking. Toll roads — the MSD (Moscow High-Speed Diameter), the TsKAD ring, the M-11 Neva motorway and the M-12 Vostok motorway — are not included in the price and are paid by the renter separately.

When is a daily rate more advantageous

Daily rental of a Volkswagen is justified when you need a car for one or two days: meeting guests from Sheremetyevo, moving, or a weekend trip to the Moscow region. In this case, you pay only for actual days and are not tied to a weekly schedule. If the trip lasts more than five days, it is almost always more profitable to take a weekly rate — it reduces the cost per day by about 14%, and this saving applies for the entire term.

Delivery of a rented Volkswagen to Moscow airports and railway stations

We deliver the car to where your trip begins: to your home, office, airport, or railway station. Rent-Trip has no physical office, so the car meets you at the pickup point. Here's how it works for the four airports and ten railway stations of the capital.

Airport delivery scheme in the capital

  • Sheremetyevo (SVO): north, ~30 km from the MKAD ring road, delivery via the M-11 or Leningradskoye Shosse; we will bring a Volkswagen Polo or Jetta to Terminals B and C.
  • Domodedovo (DME): south, ~45 km along Kashirskoye Highway or M-4; a Tiguan with all-wheel drive is convenient if you're heading to the region after the flight.
  • Vnukovo (VKO): southwest, ~28 km along the Kievskoye or Borovskoye Highway; the nearest airport to Moscow City and Kutuzovsky Prospekt.
  • Zhukovsky (ZIA): southeast, ~40 km along Novoryazanskoye Highway; here a Multivan is often taken for a group of up to 7 people.

Terms of delivery to the airport and back are specified in the rental agreement — we state the exact amount before confirming the order.

Delivery to railway stations and around the city

To Leningradsky, Yaroslavsky, Kazansky, Kursky, Kievsky, Belorussky, Paveletsky, and other railway stations, we deliver Volkswagen the same way as to airports. This is convenient for routes like “arrived by train to Moscow — switched to a Tiguan and went along the Golden Ring.” Within the city itself, we operate within the MKAD ring road and beyond: Khamovniki, Tverskoy, Patriarch's Ponds, Moscow City — the delivery address is specified during booking; we bring the car to the entrance or business center.

The procedure for handing over the car and the delivery time are specified in the rental agreement and clarified when booking.

What documents are needed to rent a Volkswagen in Moscow

To rent a Volkswagen in the capital, a Russian citizen only needs a passport and a category B driving licence—both documents must be valid at the time of receiving the car. We check them when handing over the vehicle, so prepare the originals in advance, not copies on your phone.

Package of documents for citizens of the Russian Federation

  • Passport: it certifies identity and confirms registration — without it we do not conclude the rental agreement.
  • Category B driving licence: Entitles you to drive all four VW models in our fleet — from Polo to Multivan.
  • Bank card in the name of the main driver: Used to block the deposit amount, the exact size of which is specified in the contract.

What a foreign driver needs

For guests of the capital, the list is broader: a foreign passport with a visa or residence permit, a migration card, and a national driving licence. If the licence is issued in a country that has not signed the Vienna Convention, a notarized translation or an International Driving Permit is required: this is a requirement of Article 25 of Federal Law No. 196-FZ. You can clarify the full list for your country when booking via MAX or by phone—we will advise what documents to prepare.

Driver age and experience

Age and driving experience requirements increase with car class: for the Polo minimal experience is enough, but the Tiguan with all-wheel drive or the seven-seat Multivan will require more confident experience. Exact figures for each model are specified in the agreement — at booking, a Rent-Trip manager will state the terms for a specific car. In our practice, renters with two to three years of experience regularly take the Jetta for trips along the M-11 to Saint Petersburg, while the Tiguan is more often chosen by drivers with five or more years of experience.

Toll roads, parking and fines — what to consider when renting a VW

Practical expenses on a rented Volkswagen in the capital are not limited to the tariff: toll roads, parking in the center, and camera fines add a significant amount to the trip. Let's look at what to include in the budget and how not to overpay — the figures are current for passenger cars in our fleet.

  • MSD and TsKAD ring: The Moscow High-Speed Diameter and the Central Ring Road charge 19 ₽ per section during peak hours (weekdays 7:00–11:00 and 16:00–20:00), and free outside peak and on weekends. Transit without exits costs 950 ₽.
  • M-11 Neva and M-12 Vostok motorways: The roads to Saint Petersburg and Kazan are tolled along their entire length, a class 1 passenger car on the M-12 to Kazan — 5 909 ₽. A transponder gives a discount of up to 25%, tariffs have increased by 8–10%.
  • Parking in the center: 380–800 ₽/hour from 8:00 to 21:00 within the Garden Ring, at night — 200 ₽/hour. Fine for non-payment — 5 000 ₽, towing — 8 500–12 450 ₽ plus storage.
  • Camera fines: go to the vehicle owner, that is, the rental company, and are reissued to the renter — payment is made by car plate number, you can't hide it.

The client pays for toll roads either with a transponder or by license plate within the operator's deadline. On a Tiguan with all-wheel drive, it is convenient to take the TsKAD ring to bypass traffic jams, but before a long trip check the transponder balance: on the M-11 and M-12, post-payment by plate is more expensive than with the device's discount.

We reissue fines for speeding and parking after the traffic police sends the ruling to the owner. The payment procedure and interaction in such a situation are clarified at booking. The CASCO terms, deposit, and mileage limit are specified in the rental agreement, so before heading out on the M-12 to Kazan, check with the manager about coverage on suburban routes.

Winter rental of Volkswagen in Moscow — tyres and seasonal nuances

From December to February, Volkswagen rentals in the capital run on winter tires — by law (TR TS 018/2011), tires must match the season, and our fleet is changed in advance, before the first frost. This applies to all four models: Polo, Jetta, Tiguan, and Multivan. The driver does not need to buy anything, but a couple of points about the behavior of cars on snow and urban infrastructure are worth knowing before booking.

How do VW models behave on winter roads

  • Volkswagen Polo: Front-wheel drive and 110 hp – enough for cleared streets of the capital; on icy intersections in Khamovniki or on Patriarch's Ponds it holds confidently due to the light body.
  • Volkswagen Jetta: 150 hp and front-wheel drive — on the MKAD ring road and the Third Ring Road during a snowfall requires more careful work with the gas pedal, but winter tires and electronic assistants smooth out the start from traffic lights.
  • Volkswagen Tiguan: 4Motion all-wheel drive and 180 hp are the optimal choice for the Moscow region, where roads to dacha settlements and cottage communities are cleared less often than within the Garden Ring.
  • Volkswagen Multivan: Front-wheel drive and a 2.0 L diesel – at the airport parking lot or near the Aviapark shopping mall it takes longer to warm up in winter than petrol ones; allow 5–7 minutes before driving.

What to consider in the city and on suburban routes

In winter, paid parking in the center operates on the usual schedule: 380–800 ₽/hour from 8:00 to 21:00, night — 200 ₽/hour, and snowfalls do not cancel towing for non-payment — a fine of 5 000 ₽ plus towing and storage costs. On the MSD and TsKAD during weekday rush hours (7:00–11:00 and 16:00–20:00) travel is paid — 19 ₽ per section, off-peak it is free. Camera fines go to the owner, i.e., us, and are re-invoiced to the renter — in the winter season, cameras also capture illegible plates and driving on the dedicated lane, so before returning, check if any letters have arrived. On suburban routes — towards Tula via the M-2 or Kolomna via the M-5 — roads are treated with de-icing agents, but on regional sections there may be slush; a Tiguan with all-wheel drive is more comfortable here than a Polo. In a snowstorm, allow 20–30 minutes extra to get to Sheremetyevo or Domodedovo: clearing the M-11 and Kashirskoye Highway proceeds as usual, but traffic speed drops. Winter driving and return conditions are specified in the rental agreement.

Where to go in a rented Volkswagen from the capital

The rented Volkswagen opens direct access to federal highways — to Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Tula, or cities of the Golden Ring. We deliver the car to your doorstep, so the route starts right from your home, without extra transfers. Below are proven destinations with realistic travel times on asphalt, excluding traffic jams on the way out.

Saint Petersburg and the Golden Ring

  • Saint Petersburg: via the toll M-11 Neva motorway — about 700 km and 7 hours; the route suits a Volkswagen Jetta with its 150 hp on the highway.
  • The Golden Ring: Sergiev Posad (1–1.5 hours), Pereslavl-Zalessky and Rostov Veliky (2–3 hours), Yaroslavl, Suzdal and Vladimir (3–4 hours) — a convenient format for the weekend.
  • Tula and Yasnaya Polyana: about 2.5 hours along the M-2 or M-4; an option for one day in a Volkswagen Polo.
  • Kolomna: About 2 hours along the M-5; a good choice for a short trip in a Tiguan with all-wheel drive.

Kazan via the M-12 Vostok motorway

The trip to Kazan via the toll M-12 takes about 8 hours—this is a long trip for which it is better to take a Volkswagen Multivan with 7 seats or a comfortable Jetta. The entire highway is tolled; passage for a car costs 5 909 ₽, paid by license plate or via a transponder that gives a discount of up to 25%. Terms for long-distance trips, including rates and restrictions, are clarified when booking.

What to consider before a long road trip

Before leaving, check the map for toll road sections: the MSD and TsKAD charge 19 ₽ per section during peak hours, and on weekends and off-peak travel is free. Fines from cameras come to the vehicle owner, i.e., the rental company, and are re-invoiced to the renter — on a long-distance trip, it is worth remembering. In the winter months, seasonal tire requirements apply, and the terms for mileage and deposit for intercity trips are stated in the rental agreement.
