What documents a family needs to rent a car in Moscow

Toll roads and winter conditions

Some routes include toll sections: the M-11 to Saint Petersburg, the M-12 to Kazan, as well as the MSD (Moscow High-Speed Diameter) and the TsKAD ring within the city and region. Payment is the renter's responsibility: via transponder or by license plate within the road operator's deadline. The transponder gives a discount of up to 25%; tolls on the MSD and TsKAD are 19 ₽ per section during peak hours, and transit without exiting is 950 ₽. In winter, from December to February, all fleet cars have winter tires — this is a legal requirement, and we switch the fleet seasonally. For suburban trips in a snowstorm, choose all-wheel drive: a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max or Haval Dargo will handle a snowy road more confidently than a single-axle crossover. In summer, if you plan a trip south along the M-4, keep in mind: studded tires cannot be used from June to August, and we rent cars on summer tires in the warm season.

What to consider for airport delivery

The return flight also matters: if the family is flying out, the car can be returned right at the departure terminal. Clarify at booking which terminal is more convenient — Sheremetyevo has several, and each has its own parking. Airport parking is paid, but we advise where to leave the car before returning to avoid extra charges.

A borderline case — a night arrival at Domodedovo (DME) or Vnukovo (VKO): delivery operates around the clock, as does the MAX communication channel. The contract specifies how the return of keys works if the flight is delayed by several hours. OSAGO insurance covers the car from the moment of handover, so immediately after the meeting you can head to the hotel or out of town.

In winter, renting a car for a family is not only a matter of comfort but also safety: snowfalls, temperature fluctuations, and out-of-town trips require a prepared vehicle. Winter tires and seasonal preparation

By law (TR CU 018/2011), from December to February the car must be fitted with winter tyres, and our fleet is switched over seasonally — you get a car ready for snow and ice. In summer, from June to August, studded tyres are prohibited, so in the warm season we fit non-studded winter wheels only if ordered in advance. In our experience, December frosts happen as early as the beginning of the month, so by November the entire fleet — 90 cars in 8 classes — is already on winter tyres. Before setting off, check the wipers and washer fluid level — at sub-zero temperatures, summer fluid will freeze within 10 minutes of driving on the MKAD ring road.

Which drive and body type to choose for winter
