Engine longevity and winter behavior

Diesel engines are structurally designed for a longer service life: operating pressure in the cylinders is higher and revs are lower, so component wear is slower. The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Prado 250 have proven 3.3 and 2.8 litre units that, with timely maintenance, last 400 000–500 000 kilometres. Modern diesels with Common Rail start without problems even in frost, provided the fuel is good and the glow plugs are in order. In the winter months of December–February, all our vehicles are fitted with winter tyres as required by law, so the car's behaviour on snow and slush is predictable.

Why this is important when choosing a car

When choosing a car for several days, the key parameter is the daily cost and fuel cost per kilometre. If you're planning a trip of 300–700 km one way, a diesel pays off the price difference by the second day: on the Moscow – Tula route and back, fuel savings will be 800–1 200 ₽ compared to a petrol SUV. For city driving around the capital, the difference is less noticeable, but on distances over 100 km per day, diesel is still more economical. SUVs and pickup trucks: for highways and country routes

Diesel SUVs include the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 at 19 000 ₽ per day, Land Cruiser Prado 250 at 13 000 ₽, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport at 8 000 ₽. All three have all-wheel drive and automatic transmission, with 7 seats each. The Great Wall Poer is a 5-seat pickup with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission at 6 500 ₽. For a route along the M-11 to Saint Petersburg or around the Golden Ring, all-wheel drive is not essential, but the 299 hp power reserve of the Land Cruiser 300 makes overtaking on the highway predictable. When booking, specify the class: on winter tyres, the SUV holds the snow-covered asphalt of the Moscow region more confidently.

Minivans: 7–9 seats for family and group

Diesel minivans — Hyundai Staria for 9 seats (9 500 ₽), Kia Carnival for 8 seats (10 500 ₽), Volkswagen Multivan and Mercedes-Benz V-Class for 7 seats (12 000 ₽ and 15 000 ₽). Staria with all-wheel drive and automatic transmission suits group transfer to Domodedovo — 45 km along Kashirskoye Highway. Multivan and V-Class are front- and rear-wheel drive respectively, both with automatic transmission. If five of you are going with luggage to Yaroslavl, take Carnival: the third row folds down, freeing space for suitcases.

Commercial vans: for moving and cargo transportation

We rent out vans with manual transmission and three seats: GAZelle Next for 4 800 ₽, GAZelle NN and Sollers Atlant for 5 500 ₽ each, Citroën Jumpy for 5 500 ₽, Ford Transit for 6 000 ₽. Rear-wheel drive for GAZelles and Atlant, front-wheel drive for Jumpy and Transit. For moving from an apartment in Khamovniki or delivering building materials to a dacha in Strogino, vans cover both tasks — the terms of use for each model are specified in the rental agreement.

If you need the car for more than a couple of days, the daily rate under a weekly or monthly tariff is more profitable—the final price per day is lower than the standard rate.

• Week: The cost equals the daily rate multiplied by 6. A GAZelle Next will come from 28 800 ₽ for 7 days, a Land Cruiser 300—from 114 000 ₽.
• Month: The rate is calculated as the daily rate multiplied by 21. A Sollers Atlant van will cost from 115 500 ₽, and a Hyundai Staria for 30 days — from 199 500 ₽.
• Rate conditions: The exact parameters of long-term rental — mileage, included options, and renewal procedure — are specified in the agreement.

What is included in the cost

The base price of each diesel model already includes mandatory components, while insurance and delivery details are clarified separately.

• OSAGO: the policy is issued for each vehicle as required by law — it comes into effect as soon as you get behind the wheel.
• Winter tires: From December to February, the entire fleet is switched to seasonal tires, which is a mandatory requirement for operation in the capital.
• Delivery: We deliver the car across Moscow, the region, or any of the four airports—Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, or Zhukovsky; delivery terms are confirmed upon booking.
• CASCO (comprehensive insurance): The coverage composition and the size of the unconditional deductible are specified in the contract—we show these clauses separately before signing.

When choosing between two models of the same class, the decisive argument is often not the price but the difference of 500–1 000 ₽ per day — over a year of regular trips, it adds up to a noticeable amount, so we advise calculating the full trip budget including toll roads and parking, not just the rental rate.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Prado 250: flagship SUVs for long journeys.

Land Cruiser 300 — the most powerful diesel in our fleet: 3.3 L, 299 hp, all-wheel drive and automatic. Seven seats, price 19 000 ₽ per day. Land Cruiser Prado 250 is more modest — 2.8 L, 204 hp, 13 000 ₽ per day, but also all-wheel drive and seven seats.

• Land Cruiser 300: 299 hp, 3.3 L, all-wheel drive — confident overtaking on the M-11 and M-12 without strain.
• Land Cruiser Prado 250: 204 hp, 2.8 L — 6 000 ₽ cheaper, fuel consumption on the highway is lower, engine life is designed for long trips.
• Interior and trunk: Both models have three rows of seats; the exact trunk capacity is specified in the rental agreement.

We deliver both cars to Sheremetyevo (SVO), Domodedovo (DME), Vnukovo (VKO), and Zhukovsky (ZIA) – if you are meeting guests or flying out yourself, this is more convenient than a taxi. In our opinion, for a route to Saint Petersburg on the toll M-11 Neva motorway, the difference of 299 hp is only felt during close overtaking of trucks; otherwise, the Prado 250 covers the task with a margin.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: balance of price and off-road capability

Pajero Sport — 2.4 L, 181 hp, all-wheel drive, automatic, seven seats. The price of 8 000 ₽ per day is the most affordable all-wheel-drive SUV with three rows in our fleet. In terms of price-to-equipment ratio, it often beats more expensive flagships if the route does not require constant overtaking at high speed.

• All-wheel drive: the Super Select 4WD system is suitable for dirt roads in the Moscow region and wet asphalt in autumn.
• Capacity: The car has three rows of seats; how the third row folds and how much luggage space remains is confirmed at booking.
• Diesel 2.4 L: on the highway, fuel consumption is noticeably lower than that of petrol classmates — with long-term rental, the savings become significant.

In our experience, the Pajero Sport is more often taken for trips along the Golden Ring: Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov Veliky — routes 2–4 hours from the capital, where ground clearance and confident all-wheel drive are important on country roads. Please note: according to the contract terms, off-road driving is prohibited, but for asphalt routes and light dirt roads, the car is more than sufficient.

Great Wall Poer: a diesel pickup for construction and countryside trips

Poer — the only pickup in the fleet: 2.0 L, 150 hp, automatic, all-wheel drive, five seats. Price 6 500 ₽ per day. The cargo platform accepts up to several hundred kilograms — this is an option for transporting building materials to the dacha or bulky luggage that does not fit in the boot of an SUV.

• Cargo platform: Platform dimensions and equipment are specified in the rental contract.
• All-wheel drive: On winter tires (from December to February they are mandatory), the Poer confidently drives on snowy slush outside the city.
• Five seats: The cabin is spacious, but it's not a seven-seat option — for families with children, consider minivans or SUVs with a third row.

We recommend a pickup when the goal is to combine a trip with cargo transport: for example, pick up furniture from a store in the capital and take it to the Moscow region. If the cargo is heavy, specify the weight when booking — we'll select a vehicle for the task.

Diesel minivan rental in Moscow — 7–9 seats for the family

When there are six to eight people on a trip and luggage for everyone is two suitcases more than a regular sedan can fit, a diesel minivan rental solves the problem with one vehicle. The Rent-Trip fleet has four such models — from 9 500 ₽ for a Hyundai Staria to 15 000 ₽ for a Mercedes-Benz V-Class. All minivans are diesel, with automatic transmission, for 7, 8, or 9 seats. Below is how they differ and which one to choose for a specific route.

Hyundai Staria: 9 seats for a large group

Hyundai Staria — the most spacious model in this selection: 9 seats, all-wheel drive, and a 2.2 L diesel with 177 hp. This car is chosen when you need to transport a football team, colleagues to a corporate event, or three generations of a family in one trip. The price is 9 500 ₽ per day. When the cabin is fully loaded, the boot remains modest — some items will travel on laps or in the aisle, which is normal for a nine-seat configuration. If you are travelling with six or seven people with large suitcases, it is more practical to take a seven-seat minivan, and leave the Staria for cases where every seat matters. On the M-11 to Saint Petersburg, all-wheel drive is not needed, but in winter on ice it gives confidence when overtaking trucks.

Kia Carnival and Volkswagen Multivan: family 7–8 seats

Kia Carnival — 8 seats, front-wheel drive, 2.2 L diesel with 199 hp, 10 500 ₽ per day. This is a versatile family minivan: spacious cabin, decent trunk even when fully loaded, fuel consumption on the highway is noticeably lower than that of petrol classmates. Volkswagen Multivan for 7 seats with 2.0 L diesel with 150 hp — 12 000 ₽ per day. It has a higher seating position and a larger luggage compartment, which is convenient for a long road trip with four or five people with large suitcases. Both models are automatic, both comfortably go along the M-12 to Kazan or along the Golden Ring with stops in Sergiev Posad and Suzdal.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class: 7 seats with power to spare

Mercedes-Benz V-Class — the most expensive minivan in the selection: 15 000 ₽ per day for a 2.0 L diesel with 237 hp and rear-wheel drive. Seven seats, leather interior, sound insulation at the level of an executive sedan — this is an option for business trips, meeting partners at the airport, or comfortable transfers around the capital with a stop at Moscow City and Patriki. Rear-wheel drive in winter requires care on snow, but in the urban cycle the V-Class holds the road confidently.

Which minivan to choose: a short cheat sheet

GAZelles Next and NN: budget vans for moving

GAZelle Next is the most affordable diesel van in our fleet: 4 800 ₽ per day, manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, 2.8 L engine with 149 hp. The newer GAZelle NN costs 5 500 ₽ and differs in cab and chassis—both models carry up to 1.5 tonnes of cargo. These vehicles are the standard for apartment moves: their maneuverability allows them to enter courtyards on the Garden Ring, where it is difficult for a long van to turn around. On the MKAD ring road and the MSD (Moscow High-Speed Diameter), GAZelles drive confidently, but on the M-11 motorway, overtaking requires a time margin. For a move from a three-room apartment, choose the NN—it is newer, and its specifications are confirmed when booking.

Sollers Atlant, Citroën Jumpy, and Ford Transit: European format

Sollers Atlant and Citroën Jumpy are front-wheel-drive vans with a 2.0 L engine producing 150 hp, both at 5 500 ₽ per day. Their advantage is a low loading height: it's easier to load chairs, wardrobes, and appliances than into a tall GAZelle. Ford Transit at 6 000 ₽ has the longest body in this group, with 130 hp at the same 2.0 L displacement. Front-wheel drive on these vehicles provides good traction on snow in winter — this matters more than it seems for the Moscow region. Jumpy and Atlant are convenient for intercity trips: to the Golden Ring (Sergiev Posad, Suzdal, Vladimir) they go without strain, and diesel consumption on the highway is lower than that of petrol analogues. When fully loaded, the Transit accelerates noticeably slower — plan overtakes on the M-12 in advance.

Which van to choose for the task

• Apartment move within Moscow: GAZelle Next or NN — cheap, familiar, and high-capacity.
• Transport of furniture and large appliances: Citroën Jumpy or Sollers Atlant—low floor and wide side door.

How to rent a diesel car in Moscow — documents and conditions

To rent a diesel car, a Russian citizen only needs a passport and a category B driving licence, and we will deliver the car to any point in the capital, the region, or the airport. For foreigners, the package is broader: a foreign passport, a migration card, a visa or residence permit, as well as a national licence. If the licence was issued in a country that has not signed the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, for example China, a notarised translation or an International Driving Permit will be required — this is a requirement of Article 25 of Federal Law No. 196-FZ. The driver's age and experience affect the choice of car class; the specific requirements are stated in the rental contract.

Processing and rental terms

• Documents for Russian citizens: passport and a driving licence of category B — this is enough for most models in our fleet.
• Documents for foreigners: international passport with visa or residence permit, migration card, and national driving licence; for some countries — a translation or an International Driving Permit.
• Bank card: in the name of the primary driver, from which the security payment is debited — the amount is specified in the rental agreement.
• Insurance: each vehicle is insured under OSAGO (compulsory third-party insurance) as mandatory, CASCO (comprehensive insurance) terms are specified in the contract.
• Winter tires: From December to February, winter tires are mandatory per technical regulations TR CU 018/2011; our fleet is switched seasonally.
• Camera fines: go to the vehicle owner, that is, the rental company, and are reissued to the renter.

Delivery and toll roads

We deliver diesel cars across the capital, the Moscow region, to Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky, as well as to ten railway stations—Leningradsky, Kazansky, Kursky, and others. The renter pays for toll sections of the MSD, TsKAD, M-11, and M-12 independently—via transponder or by license plate within the road operator's deadline. During peak hours, travel on the MSD and TsKAD costs 19 ₽ per section; outside peak and on weekends it's free; transit without exiting costs 950 ₽. For a long trip on the M-12 to Kazan, a car pays 5 909 ₽ for the entire route. Delivery terms and payment details are confirmed when booking via MAX or by phone.
