How much does cheap car rental in Moscow cost and what is included in the price
At Rent-Trip, cheap car rental in Moscow costs from 2 300 to 2 900 ₽ per day—this is the final price for 12 economy-class models from our fleet of 90 cars. Below we break down what is included in the price and how rates change when renting for a week or a month.

All cars are petrol, front-wheel drive, with 5 or 7 seats. OSAGO is included in the price of each—it is mandatory insurance by law for a registered vehicle. CASCO terms, the amount of the security deposit, and the mileage limit are specified in the contract.
Why a week and a month are more profitable than a daily rate
For long-term rental, the price per day decreases: a week is calculated as six days — from 13 800 ₽, a month as 21 days, from 48 300 ₽. Using the example of a Lada Granta at 2 300 ₽ per day, a month will cost 48 300 ₽ instead of 69 000 ₽ with daily payment — saving about 30%.
For trips longer than three days, it is better to plan a weekly or monthly period right away. In our practice, clients who take a car for 10–14 days more often choose the rate marked "month" and return the car early—no recalculation is made for unused days, so before booking, estimate the actual duration of the trip and clarify the terms in MAX.

How to choose a car for your task
For daily trips around the capital — Khamovniki, Patriki, Third Ring Road — compact sedans like Hyundai Solaris or Kia Rio are most convenient: 123 hp is enough for dense traffic, and parking in courtyards doesn't become a quest. For the highway to Tula or Vladimir, it's more logical to take a Volkswagen Polo or Škoda Rapid — liftbacks are more stable at speed and more forgiving of ruts on the M-4. If you're going five people with luggage to the dacha, take a Lada Largus: 7 seats and a station wagon body, the third row isn't cramped, and the whole family's bags fit in the back. In our experience, clients often make the mistake in the opposite direction — they take a sedan for five and run into trunk space; check the number of seats and volume in advance, this will save an hour on replacing the car upon delivery.
Automatic or manual: which to choose
- Manual: Lada Granta for 2 300 ₽ and Lada Largus for 2 800 ₽ — the cheapest entry into rental, fuel consumption is lower by 0.5–1 L.
- Automatic: the other ten — from 2 500 ₽; in the local traffic jams on the Garden Ring and the MKAD ring road, it relieves fatigue.
- For the city: automatic is more practical — up to 70% of the time during rush hour the car is stuck in traffic jams.
- For the highway: the difference is barely noticeable; the manual on the M-11 to Saint Petersburg saves on fuel.
- Our advice: If your budget is tight and the route is suburban, take a manual; if it's the city and short hops, an automatic justifies the price difference.
Car delivery without an office — cheap car rental in Moscow
Rent-Trip has no physical office, so we deliver the car where it is convenient for you: across the capital, the region, to Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, and to any of the ten railway stations. This saves time — no need to go anywhere for the keys.
To the airport: we meet upon arrival
- Sheremetyevo: we deliver to Terminal B or C, about 30 km from the MKAD ring road via the M-11 Neva motorway or Leningradskoye Highway.
- Domodedovo: We meet in the parking lot near the airport terminal, the route along Kashirskoye Shosse or the M-4 takes about 45 km.
- Vnukovo: delivery to Terminal A, from Kievskoye or Borovskoye Highway — 28 km from the MKAD ring road.
- Zhukovsky: We deliver to the terminal; the drive along Novoryazanskoye Highway is about 40 km.
- Railway stations: We deliver to Leningradsky, Kazansky, Kursky, Kievsky, Belorussky and other stations — we drive up to the required entrance.
We meet the client with a sign or via a call in MAX, hand over the keys and documents in 10–15 minutes. If the flight is delayed, notify us in the messenger, and the delivery will shift to the new arrival time. Our fleet has 90 cars, so for your desired date we book a specific model from the list, not 'something similar'.
Documents for rental: Russian citizens and foreigners
A Russian citizen needs only a passport and a category B driving licence. A foreign guest will need a foreign passport, migration card, visa or residence permit, and a national licence. A licence from a country not party to the Vienna Convention — for example, China — is valid only with a notarized translation into Russian or with an International Driving Permit under Article 25 of Federal Law 196-FZ.
The main driver's bank card is needed to block the deposit—we indicate the hold amount in the contract. We check the documents at handover, which takes 5–7 minutes, then hand over the keys. If you plan to travel outside the capital, tell us when booking so we can choose a car and make sure everything needed for a long trip is included.
What to consider before a trip when renting a car in Moscow
Before picking up the keys, it is worth dealing with toll roads, seasonal tires, and camera fines: these three points most often add unexpected expenses to the trip budget. Below is what really affects the final amount and how to avoid it.
Toll roads: MSD, TsKAD, M-11, M-12 — who pays
- MSD: 9 paid sections, travel on each — 19 ₽ during peak hours (weekdays 7:00–11:00 and 16:00–20:00), free outside peak and on weekends; transit without exit — 950 ₽.
- TsKAD ring: 19 ₽ per section during peak, full circle — 171 ₽, free off-peak; transit — 950 ₽.
- M-11 Neva motorway: Toll road for the entire length Moscow – Saint Petersburg; the fare depends on the section and time of day.
- M-12 Vostok: a passenger car (class 1) for the entire Moscow — Kazan route — 5 909 ₽.
- Payment: A transponder gives a discount of up to 25%; without it, tolls are paid by license plate within the road operator's deadline; a fine for non-payment is reissued to the renter.
All toll sections in the Rent-Trip contract are listed separately: the car is handed over with an active transponder, and the toll is charged based on actual usage. If you go out of town for the weekend, budget up to 1 000–2 000 ₽ for the road depending on the route—this is cheaper than a fine for an unpaid section, which would be sent to the car owner.
Winter tires and seasonal rules
From December to February, by law (TR TS 018/2011), winter tires are mandatory, and the entire Rent-Trip fleet is changed in advance — we physically cannot give out a car with summer tires in December. Studded tires, in turn, are prohibited from June to August, so in summer all 90 cars in the fleet run on non-studded or summer tires. Snow and slush in December–February are normal for winter here, but road chemicals quickly wash dirt off the body, so washing once a week with daily trips is a reasonable habit.
Fines and parking: what to budget for
Camera fines go to the vehicle owner, i.e., the rental company, and are reissued to the renter—this is standard practice across the entire capital's market. Parking in the center on weekdays from 8:00 to 21:00 costs 380–800 ₽/hour, at night—200 ₽/hour; the fine for non-payment is 5 000 ₽, towing—8 500–12 450 ₽ plus storage at the impound lot. Before a trip to Khamovniki or Patriki, it is easier to budget 1 000–1 500 ₽ for paid parking than to later search for your car at an impound lot beyond the MKAD—retrieving it from there will cost more than a day of parking.
Where to go in a rented car from Moscow
Among our clients renting a car from Rent-Trip, the most popular destinations are Saint Petersburg, the cities of the Golden Ring, and Tula with Yasnaya Polyana. All routes run on paved highways, so an economy sedan like the Kia Rio or Volkswagen Polo handles them without any issues. I will tell you what to consider when planning a trip beyond the MKAD ring road.
Three weekend routes
- Saint Petersburg: ~700 km along the toll M-11 Neva motorway, about 7 hours on the way; convenient to leave on Friday evening to greet Saturday morning in the city on the Neva.
- The Golden Ring: Sergiev Posad — an hour's drive away, Vladimir and Suzdal — 3–4 hours away; in two days you can realistically cover 2–3 cities, staying at hotels.
- Tula and Yasnaya Polyana: ~2.5 hours along the M-2 or M-4; gingerbread, samovars, and Tolstoy's estate fit into one daylight day.
For a trip of 2–3 days, we recommend renting a car on a daily basis: it is more flexible than a weekly rate if your departure does not align with a calendar week. For long routes like Kazan via the M-12 Vostok motorway (about 8 hours), it is wiser to plan at least three days so that you do not sit behind the wheel without rest.
Transponder and toll road tariffs
The M-11 and M-12 are toll roads along their entire length, and the renter pays for travel on them. If the car has a transponder, the toll is charged automatically, and the discount reaches 25% off the standard rate. Without a transponder, payment is made by license plate, but then you need to meet the deadline set by the road operator.
Inside the capital, there are also toll sections: MSD and TsKAD charge 19 ₽ per section during peak hours (weekdays 7:00-11:00 and 16:00-20:00), off-peak and weekends are free. A full circle of the TsKAD will cost 171 ₽, transit without exiting is 950 ₽. Fines from cameras come to the owner of the car, i.e., the rental company, and are recharged to the renter—this is specified in the rental agreement. Therefore, before returning, check whether there are any unpaid tolls: a couple of transactions on M-11 solves the issue in a couple of minutes.
Insurance and documents for cheap car rental in Moscow
We break down the legal side of budget rental: what the law covers, what documents are needed when filing, and why driver requirements change depending on the car class.
OSAGO and CASCO: what the law covers
OSAGO (compulsory third-party insurance) is mandatory coverage that applies to every registered vehicle by law, so it is already included in the rental price. CASCO (comprehensive insurance) is voluntary, and its terms are specified in the agreement: what exactly the policy covers, the deductible amount, and in which cases you are relieved of liability for damage. Before signing the agreement, ask the manager to show you the insurance policy and read the section on the renter's liability – it states what to do in case of an accident, a scratch in a parking lot, or hitting a pothole. If the car is insured under CASCO with a deductible, it may be more cost-effective to pay for minor damage yourself rather than file a claim – but the exact terms are always in the agreement; there is no universal answer.
What documents are needed when submitting
For a citizen of Russia, a passport and a category B driver's license are enough. A foreigner will need a passport, migration card, visa or residence permit, and a national license — if it was issued in a country outside the Vienna Convention (for example, in China), a notarized translation or an International Driving Permit is required under Art. 25 of Federal Law No. 196-FZ. The main driver's bank card is used for the security deposit, the amount of which is specified in the contract.
- Russian passport: the main identity document for Russian citizens.
- Category B licences: confirm the right to drive a passenger car.
- Migration card: Mandatory for foreigners entering Russia.
- International licence: They are needed for drivers from countries outside the Vienna Convention.
Age and experience requirements increase with car class: for economy models the threshold is lower than for business class, exact figures are specified in the agreement. At delivery we check documents and finalize the agreement within 10–15 minutes, after which we hand over the keys. If documents are not ready or the licence has expired, the car will not be issued — clarify the list when booking via MAX to avoid wasting time at the airport.
Author of the page about cheap car rental in Moscow.
My name is Dmitry, I am the manager of the Rent-Trip fleet and handle car rental in the capital. I oversee 90 cars of eight classes — from economy sedans to spacious station wagons — and it is I who ensure that each one goes out on the line technically sound and with a clean history. Our team regularly organizes early morning deliveries to Sheremetyevo, family trips to Kazan via the M-12 Vostok motorway, and business routes to Tula and back. This page is compiled not from advertising brochures but from real cases we encounter every day.
When we started, we noticed that most capital rentals charge for office, parking, and 'logistics'—and the final price increases by 20–30 percent. We took a different path: removed the office and built the savings into the rate. That's why our economy models cost from 2 300 ₽ per day, and a week costs like six days—from 13 800 ₽. This format works only under one condition: the car must be delivered exactly on time, otherwise the client will miss a flight or meeting. That's why we maintain our own delivery service rather than hiring third-party drivers.
- Delivery: We deliver the car across the city, to the region, to any of the four airports, or to a railway station—time is arranged upon booking.
- Fleet condition: we inspect each car before handing it over, monitor seasonal tire changes and scheduled maintenance.
- Documents: We prepare the contract and the acceptance certificate upon handover, and inform about the nuances of toll roads and camera fines.
- Contact: Booking and questions are handled via MAX or by phone — no offices or queues.
If you are planning a trip around the Moscow region or to neighboring regions and want to understand in advance which model suits your route, write to us in MAX. We will advise what is more practical: a Solaris for daily city trips or a Largus with seven seats for a family outing. We have learned to select a car for the task, not the other way around.
We do not promise "best prices on the market"—we simply quote the figures you see on this page and keep them the same upon delivery. If something in the contract remains unclear, ask before signing: an honest answer is faster than solving unexpected issues on the road later.
