What documents are needed to rent a GAC in Moscow

To rent a GAC M8 in the capital, a Russian citizen only needs to present a passport and a category B driving licence. For foreign guests, the list is longer: a foreign passport, a migration card and a visa or residence permit, as well as domestic driving licence. If the licence was issued in a country that has not acceded to the Vienna Convention — for example, China — it is valid only with a notarised translation into Russian or with an International Driving Permit. This requirement is set out in Article 25 of Federal Law No. 196-FZ, and when booking a GAC M8, we always check whether the renter has a translation.

What to bring with you as a citizen of the Russian Federation

• Passport: the main document confirming the identity of the renter.
• Driving licence: category B, driving experience is confirmed by a driving licence.
• Bank card: it is issued in the name of the main driver, from which the security payment is debited — the amount is specified in the agreement.

What documents a foreigner needs

• International passport: with a valid visa or an entry stamp.
• Migration card: Issued upon entering Russia, mandatory for all foreigners.

• Notarized translation of license or IDP: for licences from China and other countries outside the convention, without it, the car will not be issued.

In our experience, questions most often arise specifically with Chinese driving licences: we cannot accept the original without a translation, so we recommend ordering a notarized translation in advance — it takes one day and removes all formalities when the car is delivered. The age and driving experience of the driver affect the availability of the car: for a minivan, the requirements are higher than for compact classes, the exact conditions are specified in the Rent-Trip contract. If you plan a trip along the Golden Ring or to Saint Petersburg, check the validity of your licence — it must cover the entire rental, including returning the car in the capital.

How delivery works

When ordering, you state the flight or train arrival time — we track the status and arrive by the time you exit the arrivals area. If the flight is delayed, we adapt: in this case, just write to MAX or call. Car handover takes 10–15 minutes: you inspect the body, we record readings, you sign the contract.

Return delivery works the same way: you leave the GAC M8 in the parking lot at the airport or railway station, hand over the keys to our manager, and go to check-in. For departing passengers, this is more convenient than returning to the city to drop off the car.

What to consider for delivery

The road to the airport is tolled if you take the M-11, M-12, or MSD – payment is by transponder or by license plate within the operator's deadline. Allow 40–60 minutes to drive to Sheremetyevo, 1–1.5 hours to Domodedovo, and more during rush hour. Parking in the airport area is paid; check rates when booking. When handing over the car, the manager will advise where it's convenient to stop to avoid overpaying for waiting minutes.

Each car in our fleet is insured under OSAGO (compulsory third-party insurance) — this is mandatory civil liability insurance valid throughout Russia. It covers damage you may cause to other road users, but not repairs to the rented car itself. The terms of CASCO (comprehensive insurance), including the list of insured events and the deductible amount, are specified in the contract — before signing, we always recommend carefully studying this section. Camera fines, toll roads, and parking

Traffic camera fines go to the car owner, i.e., the rental company, and are then re-invoiced to the renter — this is standard practice. Payment must be made within the legally established deadline, otherwise the fine doubles. Paid sections — MSD, TsKAD, M-11, and M-12 — are paid by the renter, either via the transponder in the car or by license plate within the deadline set by the road operator. As for parking, in the center the rate is 380–800 ₽ per hour from 8:00 to 21:00, at night — 200 ₽ per hour.

Winter tires and seasonal vehicle preparation

From December to February, a law requires winter tires—our fleet is seasonally fitted, and you receive the GAC M8 on prepared tires. Outside the city in winter, you'll find flat snow-covered fields and forest belts of the Moscow region. When choosing a route, consider road conditions: M-11 and M-12 are cleared with priority, but on regional roads of the Golden Ring, snow may linger longer. Parking and fines during a trip

Parking in the center of the capital is paid: from 8:00 to 21:00 — 380–800 ₽ per hour, at night — 200 ₽ per hour. The fine for non-payment is 5 000 ₽, towing will cost 8 500–12 450 ₽ plus storage. When driving out of town, keep in mind that the surrounding area is flat: forests and fields, no mountains or serpentines. In winter, from December to February, the car has winter tires — this is a legal requirement, and our fleet switches tires according to the season.
